Reviews
Such a beautiful establishment that is in dire need of refurbishment and maintenance, both outside and inside including the greenery and pavements. If you get past the many closed halls and overlook the maintenance needing areas, you will enjoy a wonderful and storytelling museum that perhaps was stellar once upon a time. I hope we visit again and find more exhibits on display.
Be aware of parking areas as Google and other apps get lost with updates. Also mind the timing as it closes midday.
As of January 2024 large parts of the museum is closed for renovations with only a small display on Kuwaiti heritage remaining open. Entry is free, however I would recommend visiting the Bait Al Othman museum instead if you wish to get a better understanding of Kuwaiti history and culture.
I am very disappointed in the exterior (poor grounds maintenance) and the interior of this national museum. Once you entered into a dimly lite entrance... you were greeted with kind and friendly receptionists.
However, once we began our walk, many display cases were not lighted, which made it hard to see the artifacts. The artifacts that we could see and read about were not well described. Once you exited the 1st display area (again disappointed in the maintenance of the exterior), we entered another building with few, very dusty, broken displays that barely explained the history of the Kuwaiti people. Again, the lighting made it hard to read the few displays that had a bit of information. Once you exited this area, that was the end of the tour... nothing was displayed from about the 1970s to the present date, no modern history of Kuwait.
I gave it a 2 rating for the friendly staff and a few artifacts that I could learn a little about that were on display.
It's free entrance and composed of a few buildings. The Heritage museum was extremely interesting and replicates authentic village back in the days. The Islamic art building is currently closed for maintenance. The staff was also super friendly and allowed us to store our luggage to walk around the neighborhood weight-free.
The museum had a few special artifacts and some interesting recreations of life in a village town. It was very inexpensive, making it a reasonable way to spend part of an afternoon or evening.
Kuwait National Museum is the national museum of Kuwait, located in Kuwait City. It was founded in 1983 and designed by architect Michel Ecochard.
Entrance for free, next to is Archigeological museum and heritage museum. Really nice to see
Only heritage museum and archeological museums were open. Planetarium, islamic arts museum and many other exhibitions were closed.
Staff only spoke arabic, so it was not clear if the planetarium will be back open soon or not.
Small but interesting museum showcasing local archaeology finds dating from Neolithic times through Islamic periods. They could do with some more descriptions. The count room and ethnographic sections are more diverse
